Artists of Interest

Kurt Jackson

I have been interested in Kurt Jacksons work for a couple of years, since I saw a program about his art that was on in the early hours while I was feeding my little one. I love the way he paints flat on the ground and the way he paints, splashes of paint and large paint brushes. His work always has life and movement even in the most still of subjects.

Howard Hodgkins

My tutor asked if I knew the work of Howard Hodgkins. The answer is yes. I do like his work. I was introduced to his work by my tutor Alan Humphries at Fareham College and have enjoyed looking at his work ever since. While I was at the Andy Warhol Exhibition back in June, in Southampton, I saw this Peice of work and I found it very interesting. It is the first time I have seen any of his work other than in books or TV. I think this piece of work was about a converstation he had on the telephone. Howard Hodgkins said that these pieces of work were about: 'one moment in time involving particular people in relation to one another, and also to me’. You can see the layer paint as he painted it over a 3 years and kept working it. I have always like the movement that he gets with paint and I especially like the brightness of this peice. It almost looks like a record.

Michael Brennan Wood

My Tutor suggested that I had a look at this Textile Artists work, I found it very interesting and I loved the way he used different materials to create texture. I also love the way his some of his work comes out of the wall. Would love to see a some of his work at a gallery so I could see more detail.

House With Drying Laundry

I stumbled across this Artist in the Metro newspaper and was straight away interested in the subject, colour and texture of his painting. I looked him up on the internet and found out he is an Austrian Artist who was a student of Gustav Klimit. He was a controversal artist, some of his work at the time was considered pornographic, as he focused on sex, death and discovery. His Portrait work is a little disturbing, but interesting as the bodies are twisted and distorted.
